Chattanooga, Tennessee (AdGal Marketing) June 10, 2008 – Although “going green” is the latest craze and is often just a play on words, Stone Services of Chattanooga looks at conservationism and eco-friendly business practices as more than just a fad. It is a smart way to do business.
“By spending a few extra dollars on the front end on eco-friendly tools, means and methods,” said Tony Allen, co-owner of Stone Services, “we will actually save operating dollars in the long run. That, in turn, will help us provide better service to our customers as we are able to reinvest those savings into our company which allows us to stay competitive in the marketplace.”
Allen and partner Keith Porter started Chattanooga’s premier stone surfaces business in June 2004. Drawing on a background rooted deep in the construction industry, the two men saw a need for quality stone surfaces, hence the name. They got together and opened Stone Services in a 6400 sq. ft. building in Chattanooga, but as demand for their product grew, so did their need for a bigger building.
So in spring 2008, Stones Services found a new home in a 28,000 sq. ft. building. The building’s ample space allows them to utilize eco-friendly production processes. From the indoor gray water reclamation and filtration system to the outdoor cistern to the variable speed air compressor, Stone Services commitment to power and water conservation serves as a model for other businesses.
In addition to the eco-friendly production processes, the business also offers IceStone, a product created from completely recycled materials. Made from 75% recycled glass, about 18% white portland cement, IceStone can be used on walls, floors, or countertops. Less porous than marble and as heat and scratch resistant as granite, this manmade product is installed much like natural stone and because of the materials used, the color possibilities are infinite.
“Stone is a naturally occurring material and nature is rarely symmetrical,” said Allen, “This product appeals especially to those wanting a more uniform pattern for their countertop.”
And due to the VOC-free, high recycled content, IceStone surfaces are ideal for projects seeking LEED certification.
Stone Services also offers Zodiaq, a manufactured stone-quartz product by DuPont. Many of the products in the Zodiaq line have at least 13 percent pre-consumer recycled material and 18 of the colors are made with at least six percent pre-consumer recycled content. They offer low VOC emitting, nonporous, long-lasting surfaces that can be easily renewed and repaired.
