Q: How should I select material for my granite countertops?
A: As the selection of a granite countertop is largely a matter of opinion, narrow the field by first defining your preferences: Light or Dark? Warm or Cool? Movement and veining or stippling? Or both? Next, compile a box of adjacent finishes. Include everything: cabinetry, flooring materials, backsplash tiles, paint colors, cabinet and door hardware, lighting finishes, draperies etc... Then, based on your personal preferences, slip in five or six granite countertop samples. You will begin to get a feel for how the different granite colors will coordinate with your other finishes. If you have a warmer pallet, keep samples with a warm, creamy base. If your space is more monochromatic consider coordinating analogous colors (smoky blues paired with muted greens). For bold color schemes or achromatic pallets focus your attention on the granite colors that have a more saturated pigmentation. Reduce your options down to two different granite countertop materials and bring your box to Stone Services' Chattanooga showroom. Compare your granite color selections side by side in full slabs. Finally, select the stone that speaks to you! If you are still having trouble finalizing your decisions, our staff will be more than happy to assist you!
